GUMC Alumni Resource Guide

This guide provides free resources for Georgetown University alumni

Reference Services

  • Dahlgren librarians are available for short consultations with alumni and visitors limited to a brief orientation to the Dahlgren website.  Printing and photocopying of materials is not available in Dahlgren and licensed materials may not be downloaded from computer workstations by alumni or visitors.
  • Dahlgren librarians are information professionals, not health professionals and are therefore unable to interpret medical information or provide healthcare-related advice.

Donations

Dahlgren Memorial Library [DML] welcomes gifts that strengthen and support the library’s mission and collections as well as the mission of the Georgetown University Medical Center.  However, DML collections are 99% electronic only.  Available resources are broader and deeper in scope than ever before, but the library no longer acquires journal / serial publications in print, and acquires very few print books.

Dahlgren Memorial Library does not collect or retain materials of an archival or historic nature and does not have a “history of medicine” program, mission or collection. If material is believed to be of historic value or significance, DML may work with the Georgetown University Archives to review the materials for potential acquisition, but DML reserves the right to sell donated material and/or donate to another organization.

Donors who wish to receive a tax deduction for gifts should seek professional tax accountant or estate counsel prior to making a gift.   The IRS prohibits librarians and other staff from appraising materials or for paying for or arranging for appraisals. Pertinent information is available in IRS Publication No. 561 "Determining the Value of Donated Property".

DML does not accept any loose or bound journal donations.

Yearbooks
