RefWorks Guide

This guide will provide you with a more in-depth look at the New RefWorks bibliographic management tool.

Exporting from Legacy RefWorks

If you have used RefWorks in the past, you may be concerned about how to retrieve those citations from your old accounts. New RefWorks allows users to transfer old files, folders, notes, and PDFs from Legacy RefWorks accounts so users of New RefWorks won't lose their information.

In order to begin the process of getting information from old accounts, follow the steps below:

First, go to the Plus (+) icon at the top of the screen and select the Import Reference option. You will be redirected to a page that asks you where you wish to import from. Select the option for RefWorks. Follow the directions provided by RefWorks to authenticate your old account and migrate it to your RefWorks account. If you have multiple accounts, you can do this multiple times.

Migrating from Legacy to New RefWorks

When you are finished signing in, it will automatically begin the migration process. You may need to wait a few minutes while RefWorks migrates your old information, this is especially true if you have multiple citations, folders, or PDFs.

You can have an account for both Legacy RefWorks and New RefWorks and use them in tandem. If you add more information to your Legacy RefWorks account, you will need to migrate again into New RefWorks to add the new information as it won't automatically be included. This can be done as often as needed.
